Last Saturday 5th May, Queens Park FC ran its’ first MiniRoos referee, or “Game Leader”, course.

Our first Game Leaders turned up bright & early at 8am, and were put through their paces.  Lots of practical lessons about the rules, how to blow the whistle loudly enough and at the right time, how to give the correct signals and lastly how to deal with the tricky situations which always occur during a game.

Each aspiring Game Leader then ran half a game. We then discussed afterwards what went right and what could be improved on.

All the kids involved showed great enthusiasm and a real willingness to learn.  Once they graduate from our assessment process each Game Leader will be awarded a pink shirt, and they will be rostered onto 7 v 7 games.  I hope this will progress to coverage of 9 v 9 games and eventually our Sunday games schedule.

I am grateful to our parents & coaches who gave such strong support to these young Game Leaders.  Please bear in mind that the kids are as young as 10, and are learning on the job.

I look forward to having a group of young confident capable and competent Queens Park FC Game Leaders refereeing our Under 8 to Under 12 games.

The response from junior players to the course has been fantastic and it is well over-subscribed.  The club will be running a further course, or courses over the season.  Apologies to those who missed out this time, but we are looking to expand the program and eventually have all our MiniRoos games refereed by our QPFC Game Leaders.

kind regards
